Some History about the Mill
The Mill House was originally a water-powered flour mill, dating back to the 11th Century, and was recorded in the Domesday Book of 1086. However, the flagstones in Reception are the last survivors of the original Mill.
In the 16th Century the Mill was owned by New College, Oxford then it was rebuilt in 1770 the original fireplace and bread ovens for proving the dough are now features in our residents lounge area. By 1847, milling was being supplemented by the sale of beer, and so the Mill effectively became part flour mill and part alehouse.
